Extreme Long Range
Also: ELR
Shooting beyond roughly 1,500 yards as a discipline of its own — the regime where cartridge choice, scope capacity, and atmospherics start to fight you in real ways.
ELR is the slice of long-range shooting where the variables stop being forgiving. Transonic flight, larger wind calls, scope elevation that runs out before the target gets in the dot — everything that’s a rounding error at 600 yards becomes a hit-or-miss decision at a mile.
The line isn’t an exact number. NRL ELR competitions cap at 2,000 yards. King of 2 Miles starts at 1,500. Mile shots are commonly counted as ELR; sub-thousand isn’t.
