Field of View
Also: FOV
How wide an area you can see through the scope at a given distance, usually quoted in feet at 100 yards. Lower magnification = wider field of view.
A scope at 5x might give you 22 feet of view at 100 yards; at 25x, only 4-5 feet. That’s the tradeoff for the magnification: you trade scene awareness for target detail.
For finding impacts and tracking moving targets, wider field wins. For making the precise shot, narrower field with more magnification wins.
