Wind Hold vs Wind Dial
Two ways to correct for wind. Hold means leaving the turret alone and aiming the reticle into the wind by a measured amount. Dial means turning the windage turret to move the reticle, then aiming dead-on.
Most precision shooters hold for wind. Wind changes between shots; chasing it with the turret means missing the shift. With a holdover, you can re-read the wind between rounds and shift your aim without touching glass.
Dialing wind makes sense when the wind is steady and the shot is well-rehearsed — F-Class, benchrest, certain ELR steel matches where conditions hold for the string. In wind that’s pulsing, hold and trust the reticle.
